Training Flight Hours

The minimum amount of flight training required for achieving a Sport Pilot certificate is 20 hours. This is half the time required for a Private Pilot certificate.

Medical Requirements

Your state driver’s license is used to establish medical fitness. You must follow any restrictions or limitations listed on your driver’s license.

You may not use your drivers license to meet the requirement if you have had your FAA medical certificate or application denied, revoked, or suspended by the FAA.

Privileges

You may;

Act as pilot in command of a Light Sport Aircraft (LSA) or existing production aircraft (standard airworthiness certificate) and experimental amateur-built aircraft that meet the criteria of a light-sport aircraft.

Fly during the daytime using Visual Flight Rules (VFR). Three statute miles visibility and visual contact with the ground are required.

Fly cross-country anywhere in the U.S. Fly up to 10,000 feet above mean sea level (MSL).

Fly solo or with one passenger. Share operating expenses with another person.

Fly in all types of controlled airspace with the appropriate training.

Instruction

Our flight instructors specialize in providing light sport flight training and ground instruction in your aircraft or ours. Our Chief Flight Instructor is a Pilot Examiner with over 6000 hours of flight time. Please see our Pilot Examiner page.

Rates

We charge $40 per hour for instruction. The SportStar wet (with fuel) rate is $100 per hour. AB Flight has no surprise surcharges or hidden fees.
